たまに仕事に行くと、英国人上司や同僚と話す際に
とっさに英語がでてこなくて言葉に詰まる事がしばしば。
外国語って身につけるのは大変だけど、忘れるのは速いなあ。
と、しみじみ感じております。
少なくとも、もうしばらくの間はひきこもり生活を楽しみたいので、
せめて、家にいる間も英語の勉強を頑張ろうと思います。
さて、今回の単語は、gullible

面白い単語が多いですね。

日本人が意味を誤解しやすい単語として、常に上位をキープしている、
naive も gullible の synonyms ですね。
でも、実際に使う場合、naive と gullible では、
どちらの方がのほうが失礼（上から目線）なのでしょうか。
また、ネイティブはどの様に使い分けているのでしょうか。
気になるところです。
"naive" は、あまりにも有名なので、このブログでは
取り上げる予定はなかったのですが、せっかく出てきたので
次の記事で取り上げてみようと思います。

これだけ例文をみて気づいたのは、どうやら gullible という単語は、
public とか Society という単語と併用される事が多々あるようです。
文法上正しいとか正しくないとかではなく、ただ単に、
他よりも頻繁に使用される単語の組み合わせの事を、
英語でコロケーション（collocation）と言いますが、
おそらく gullible は、public とか Society とcollocate するんだと思います。
