日本語では、「コップが汗をかく」なんて表現したりしますね。
テーブルの上のコップが汗かいているを見て
ワタシ：ああ、これ、、英語でなんて言ったっけ？？？
夫（ミャンマー人)：Condensation.
あと、冬が近づいて、外が寒くなってくると、朝起きたら、窓の内側に水滴がたまってたりしますよね。
日本語では、「結露」というやつですね。
会社で同僚（英国人)とのスモールトークで季節の話をしていて、
ワタシ：最近、朝起きたら窓の内側に水滴がたまるようになったよね。
ああいうの、英語でなんて言ったっけ？
同僚（英国人）：Condensation.
おおお！ユーリカ！
英語では、コップが汗をかくのと、窓の結露は同じ単語なんだ！
まあ、同じ現象ではありますわな。
空気中の水蒸気が、表面温度の低いものに触れて凝固し、水滴となる。
Condensation.
コンデンスミルクのコンデンスと同じ単語ですよね。
ちょっと興味があるので辞書を引いてみました。

おお！まさに1番目の意味ですね。
でもふと思った。
これってもしかしたら、イギリス英語かも。
というのは、「コップが汗をかく」でググッてみると、
A cold glass of water sweats. って感じの例文もでてくるのです。
つまり、英語でも、グラスは汗をかくんですね。
でも、この表現は、英国では聞いたことがありません。
なんとなく、こちらの表現はアメリカ英語で、Condensation はイギリス英語のような気がする。
というのは、アメリカのアニメ、Family Guy でイギリス事をおちょくっている一コマがあり、そこで、この Condensation という単語が使われているからです。
これを見て以来、Condensation という単語が頭から離れなくなってしまったのです。
